announcement designs

Just finished up with one announcement design, and while I can't post it yet because I want the client to view it in better quality first... I'm in announcement mode and want to post a couple other favorites from the past few months!

Cake sessions are my FAVORITE! I have my favorite 1 year old twins coming up in the middle of July, you can bet that there's gonna be plenty of cake and pink ballons! I'm very excited to have a twins-with-cake-session. What an adorable mess it will be. Here was one absolute sweetheart with his 1-year old cake. No reserves in digging in and tearing it up for this guy.

And just to show the teeny-tiny-ness of her little toes...Plus, it made a very fun birth announcement for them to send their friends who are jewelers.

And last. Yes, I photographed a wedding. It was extremely casual and relaxed. It was actually quite fun. I wasn't there for hours, posing large groups, not at all. It's the only way I'd do it again, if the couple were half as much fun as this couple was.

That's all for now! I hope you all enjoy this Father's Day weekend! While most of my Father's Day deliveries made it out early this week, I did deliver a lone almost-late fathers day portrait set today. If you're reading this MG, I hope you had time to get them framed for him this afternoon, and thank you for your understanding! I'll post some of my favorite fathers day "surprises" after it's safe to do so next week. :)

more railroad tracks

Is he the cutest?! How adorable are toddlers hanging out on railroad tracks?!! This is my little guy. My older one. And look at the gorgeous sunset light on him in the walking away shot. It's so warm and orange.

It's amazing how fast they grow up, how much they change, how much they still need us but at the same time, barely want to admit it. I LOVE photographing ages 2-3. It's absolutly one of my favorites. Certainly not the easiest ages to photograph (and definetly not when it comes to my OWN children!!) but so rewarding when you get that moment of a glimpse from them into their real personality.

getting noticed!

Well, this blog is getting noticed already; it's only been a few days... I will say that I'm surprised. I often am surprised at how fast word travels, either the written word through emails or board groups or real words spoken between real people! So easy to get lost in the technology. Such an easy way to keep in touch. Anyways, since this blog is so new, I feel a bit compelled to toss in some other posts just to beef it up a bit. :)

This was baby G, and they were taken nearly a month ago. He was THE easiest that I have ever photographed, to date. He slept in SO many different positions, places. He gave me gorgeous eye contact when he was awake, he was just as peaceful and easy-going and laid back as they come. He was 6 weeks when we had this session. A potentially challenging time. Before about 2 weeks, it's usually easy-ish because those tiny ones just sleep. 4-12 weeks *can* sometimes prove challenging... because they don't always appreciate getting stripped down and woken up and moved around... But not this little guy, he was fine with it all. He was a dream.

And gorgeous parents on top of his perfect demeanor! I've got a few more sessions with this family in the coming months, can't wait!

A family that I LOVED.

It's no secret- my absolute favorite thing to photograph are newborns. Tiny babies. After that, individual portraits are my favorite... I do photograph families, but not traditional posed families who want all subjects looking at the camera and smiling for every picture. I enjoy a couple of "smiling and looking" portraits, but for the most part, I love to capture interactions. The love between a parent and their child, or parents and their children. The tickles, the sillies, the whispers, the kisses, the love. Not 1-2-3 "cheese," but instead, the real stuff.

This, in my mind, is the good stuff. The kind of portrait I'd want enlarged huge in canvas on my walls. It shows the true family dynamic. Not cardboard versions of them, but really how they are with each other.

Sure, by request, I'll absolutly try for a couple of "posed" and "looking" shots each family session, but for the most part, that's not what I am hired for. When I do catpure posed family shots, I try to keep them natural, not stiff or akward. Here's one that works great:

Beautiful family, aren't they?

5 days old

This little 5 day old beauty has two older brothers. She won't be spoiled at all, right? haha... This capture is my session favorite.
It's always amazing to me that while all they want to do is sleep when they're this little, they still look so awake and amazed by the world when they are awake. This one might be my second favorite from the session. She looks like she just hatched out of an egg, which is just... beyond words. This probably isn't too different from what she looked like in utero a week prior... which makes it amazing to look at.
I like this one in color for some reason. She is so gorgeous, isn't she?

here we go...

Here we go, venturing into the world of "business blogging." Life with a camera is so rich, so rewarding, so fresh and interesting. I'd love to share that more than I'm able to do on my website alone.

Hopefully, this will be a great way to let prospective clients into my world a little bit more. Aside from that, it seem to be an effective and fun way to just... let people get a feel for my personality and my style a bit. I'm going to try to keep up with this and make a habit of posting recent favorites and new "stuff" at least weekly. So here we go.

I'll try to stick to business, but you may get to see how I torture my own children with the camera... constantly, and you'll surely get glimpses into what *I* think makes a wonderful portrait. Enjoy!
